It is very important to take breast milk for the first six months, if possible. Especially in multiple pregnancies, babies born earlier than single pregnancies need much more breast milk. Seeing breastfeeding as a convenience, not a difficulty, in the multi-care process, which is difficult enough, makes the process easier and more sustainable. It would be a good decision to embark on the path of breastfeeding, which is more beneficial and actually less troublesome for everyone, rather than engaging in a time-consuming task such as preparing food for two babies, heating water, cleaning bottles, and so on. The most applicable, efficient and time-saving way of breastfeeding will be to breastfeed the babies at the same time. By trying positions where you can breastfeed both babies at the same time, you can find the most suitable one for both your babies and yourself.
double baby hold
Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported. Lay one of your babies on your right inner arm and the other on your left inner arm. They should be standing facing each other. Bring your legs together on your torso. And let them grasp the breast in this position. If you have cesarean section stitches, this position can be painful at first and the football grip may be more suitable for you.
Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported. Place your nursing pillow on your lap. Put the first baby under your right arm and the second baby under your left arm in a supine position. Support their heads with your palms so they can hold the breast. In this position, it may be better to raise your back by placing an additional pillow under the nursing pillow for comfort. If you have had a cesarean section, you will not feel any pressure on your stitches in this position.
hold in parallel position
Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported. Place your nursing pillow on your lap. Bend your arm at the elbow and hold your first baby on the side of your body, at waist level. Support your baby’s head with your palm and turn his face towards your breast. Keep your back on your forearm like a bag. Lay the second baby on the inside of your other arm and turn her face towards your breast, allowing her to stretch her feet towards your lap. One of your babies should be in the cradle position and one should be in the football grip position.
In order for breastfeeding to be comfortable, it is not enough to find the right position, a short preparation beforehand will greatly increase your breastfeeding comfort.
- Before you start breastfeeding, you will need water, snacks, phone, etc. during breastfeeding. Put your supplies where you can lie down while breastfeeding.
- Take care of your toilet needs.
- Do not start breastfeeding without providing yourself with enough comfort, support your back and waist with pillows until you find the most comfortable sitting position.
- Quickly position your babies to minimize misunderstandings that can cause nipple sores.
- Do not hesitate to ask for help from those around you until you are able to organize this work on your own.
