What is the reason our fingers are wrinkled?
The outermost layer of the skin is covered with a special oil that moisturizes and protects the skin and makes the skin waterproof. When we soak our fingers in water for a long time, swimming or taking a relaxing bath, this oil disappears. The water can then easily penetrate the outermost layer of the skin and as a result the skin begins to absorb water. There are a few theories that might explain why the skin wrinkles when it absorbs water, but there is still no clear result. One theory says this is a way to adapt to the environment.
